Our small sleepy community needs your prayers.
Col Russell Williams, the Base Commander of the local Airforce base has been charged with 2 counts of murder and 2 of rape.
The bodiy of his last victim was found less that 1 mile from Dads house, the 2 rapes occured about 3 miles from him and 10 miles from where we live, in the homes of the women.
His other murder victim was a Corporal from the Base of which he was Commander.
The whole community has been rocked, firstly with the rapes, then the missing woman – then the announcement that she had been murdered and dumped in woodland outside the village.
To add to that, there are stories of people taking it out on other Armed Forces personel, with uniformed people being spat on or verbally abused – how can other people be responsible for the actions of another – whom they probably do not even know?
Although the man accused (he apparently confessed and led police to where he had dumped the body) is now in custody, the whole episode has left everyone feeling so uneasy. We are a community where no one locks their doors (can you believe that??!!) I remember out first week in our new house (very old house actually!) when we had accidently forgotten to lock the front door and came home to find a wonderful apple pie sitting on the table – a welcome gift! That what peole do, and thats how people live here.
So lives have been shattered that maybe we live in a world where living like that is no longer a good idea.
I know that VI has several Military wives involved – so you will understand the feelings of some of the people on the Base where this man was Commander, that the man they thought they trusted, the very public face of their lives, has confessed (allegedly) to such horricic crimes against other human beings.
My 2 girls (ages 12 & 14) feel very uneasy, even being left at home for a short time, and certainly don't want to be left here to babysit their 4 year old brother – there goes our freedom for a while!!! (how selfish!!)
So your prayers would be appreciated. I have just started the Character of God online course which is helping me to focus on who God really is – not who I wanted him to be in my small mind! All this happening has inevitably shaped some of my thoughts but in a funny sort of way has also helped me to focus on Gos – and the Big Picture no matter what else is going on around me.
With blessings and the Love of the Lord to you all
Sally
