First off Jaque, In answer to your question:
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He died for you along with everyone else? I’d have to yes, I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He died for me along with everyone else.

Ok so this scripture is one of the basic salvations scriptures…

Right now, living my life as I am today…my life feels more real and truthful and honest than it ever did when I was trying to serve Him. The people in my life both christian and heathen are real and grounded and honest and trustworthy which is more than I can say for some of the ‘friends’ i had 10+ years ago. You find out who your friends are when the shit hits the fan and you’re the only one standing there and nobody even hands you a towel. My friends today have stood with me and have been loyal no matter what and no matter who was at fault. Anyway, I know you’re going to say that there’s too much “I” in there again so I’ll continue on with my thoughts…

I guess what I’m trying to say is that if the enemy comes to steal kill and destroy and that’s what I experienced when I was trying to serve Christ and now that I’m not really serving Him and just living life I feel that life is more enjoyable and abundant and fulfilling than it was back then. So I guess I must be really decieved because according to scripture it’s supposed to be the other way around.

Again…confusion abounds!

Laramie, while you look up John 10:10 let me ask you; do you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He died for you along with everyone else?

Sorry for the delay…had surgery a couple of weeks ago and am just getting back on my feet.

Yes, I intended to receive Christ and yes, I asked Him into my heart. Not sure that my motivation was pure though…does that make a difference?

I think I still have a Bible somewhere around here…I’ll look up John 10:10 and get back to you.

This is a great reminder to lay that trepidation down and spring forth in confidence! Not so much confidence in the task at hand (I never want to be so confident that I’m not dependant on God), but rather confidence in that wherever my foot may land, that Christ, the solid rock, is awaiting me there. He calls, He equips! Thank you, Sara!

Your description of our fears and His provision is right on. Thanks for putting into words the divine process. I especially liked this part:

But every time you do that in obedience to His leading, you will discover that He is waiting for you there. He is your parachute who protects you against a fall, but your parachute won’t open until it’s needed.

Wow, “won’t open ’til it’s needed”, that’s so true. The free fall before that can be terrifying or exhilarating depends on our view of God at the time.

This quote from Tozer about a “tiny point of light” is perfect. (I remember that from his book), and boy, it rings truer than ever in light of what God is showing me now. I love knowing that I know by the way of unknowing. :0)

Jaque,
I will tuck this away: “I know Him by heart.”
It feels so secure, because once you know something by heart, it never leaves you.
He recently told me that the one thing I must never change my mind about is the fact that He loves me. This I know by heart and so I don’t change my mind about it, no matter what circumstances I am in.
I read from Tozer today in The Knowledge of the Holy. He said, “Just as under certain conditions a tiny point of light can be seen, not by looking directly at it but by focusing the eyes slightly to one side, so it is with the idea of the uncreated (God).”
When we try and know with our minds its like looking at the point of light, we can’t seem to see it, it eludes us. But when we know with our hearts it just kind of sneaks in there by the way of unknowing as long as we’re looking in the right direction.
We’re listening to the Character of God messages in our online class and you say in lesson one:
“We know him in his Presence, not from figuring him out.”
